![]() Two spotlights used to graze light onto a stone feature wall. The spotlights are 12 volt halogen and have 50 watt bulbs. These lights use a wall mounted transformer which drives these and three more lights in the garden. The 12 volt lights need a separate transformer to convert the mains voltage to 12 volts. Many of the lights have the option of an integrated transformer. Being outside the lights have to withstand corrosion and while the powder coated aluminium performs well the best options are solid copper or stainless steel. The reason that stainless steel lights differ so greatly in price is because the lights can be made from either grade 304 or the more expensive grade 316 stainless steel. Both of these will stain, but the grade 316 will do so only in very harsh conditions. Stainless steel lights can be cleaned using a scouring pad, rubbing carefully in the direction of the grain. The lamp can then be protected with car polish or lacquer. Copper lights will age to a dull red brown. For more options see Hunza Lighting
