This double recessed light from Eurotech Lighting offers a unique way of making a feature of your stairway.

The vertical light shines directly downward to light the treads, the lights are fixed but the strength and beam angle of the bulb can be chosen to direct the correct amount of light exactly where you need it.
The angled light washes the wall and by using a coloured dichroic bulb you can create interesting and unusual effects.

The fitting uses 12 halogen MR16 bulbs and a transformer is needed to convert the mains power to 12 volt AC. 
This is not a disadvantage as 12 volt halogen bulbs are superior to  main voltage halogen in lower cost, longer life , greater efficiency  and a wide choice or power and types

The fitting has a faceplate 155 x 85 mm and is 100mm deep.   The cut out size is 145 x 75 mm
